Maize Sydney

Corn hybrid Sydney is a simple inter-row medium-maturing hybrid with FAO maturity group 350, registered in the State Register of Varieties since 2017. The plant is tall, reaching 250–290 cm in height, slightly bushy, and resistant to lodging. The ear is attached at 100–120 cm, has a length of 19–24 cm, cylindrical shape, with 14–18 rows of kernels and a red stalk. The kernels are yellow-orange, dent-type, with a 1000-kernel weight of 320–360 g. The hybrid exhibits high resistance to major diseases and pests, as well as heat and drought tolerance. Hybrid Sydney is suitable for cultivation both for grain and silage, making it versatile for various agronomic purposes. In steppe zones, it is recommended to maintain a pre-harvest plant density of 40–45 thousand per hectare, and in forest-steppe zones — 55–60 thousand per hectare. The potential grain yield reaches 13–13.5 t/ha, and silage yield — 48–76 t/ha, confirming the hybrid’s high productivity. In forest-steppe zones, corn hybrid Sydney has proven particularly well-suited as a silage hybrid, demonstrating remontant properties — green stalks remain even in autumn. The hybrid was developed and recommended for cultivation by the Institute of Grain Crops of NAAN of Ukraine and is produced by the company Rost Agro. Seeds are packaged in paper bags of 80 thousand units. Corn hybrid Sydney responds well to improved growing conditions, enabling farmers to achieve stable and high yields even under challenging climatic conditions. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptability, this hybrid is popular in steppe and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine.
