Sonata

Carrot variety Sonata is a mid-season high-yield variety of the Nantes type, bred by the West Siberian Vegetable Experimental Station. Root crops of this variety have a bright orange color, cylindrical shape with a length of 15 to 20 cm and a mass of 93 to 185 g. They are distinguished by dense, juicy, and sweet pulp with a high content of dry matter (11.6-12.2%), total sugar (7.1-8.1%) and carotene (8.0-15.4 mg per 100 g), which ensures an excellent taste and high nutritional value.

The Sonata variety is characterized by good storability and high commercial qualities, which makes it attractive both for fresh consumption and for processing. Plants have vigorous dark green foliage, and root crops are uniform and dense, which facilitates mechanized harvest collection. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to choose well-lit areas with loose fertile loamy or light loess soil with a deep plow layer, avoiding shading and fresh manure, which can cause root crop curvature.

Carrot sowing is carried out at the end of April – beginning of May at a depth of 2-3 cm after soil moisture charging. Upon the appearance of the first true leaves, seedlings are thinned to an interval of 3x10 cm. Moderate levels of nitrogen and phosphorus-potassium nutrition are necessary for optimal growth. The best predecessors for the Sonata variety are potatoes, cabbage, cucumber, tomato, and onion. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptability, Sonata carrot is suitable for cultivation from spring to late autumn in open ground.
