Description
Cultivation Guidelines for Concordia Carrots
Concordia, a hybrid introduced by Bejo Zaden B.V. and registered in Ukraine in 2026, requires precise agronomic management to ensure uniform root development and high marketability. The hybrid is bred for consistency, but its performance is heavily dependent on soil structure and moisture control.
Soil Preparation and Sowing
To achieve the desired root shape, Concordia must be grown in deep, loose, sandy loam or loamy soils. Tillage depth should be at least 30–35 cm to prevent root deformation. Raised beds are highly recommended to facilitate drainage and mechanical harvesting.
- Planting Density: Aim for 0.8 to 1.0 million plants per hectare. A double-row configuration on beds (45–50 cm between rows) is ideal for optimal light distribution and root expansion.
- Timing: Sowing should commence when soil temperatures reach +8°C to +10°C. For long-term storage, late May to early June sowing is preferred to avoid extreme heat during the early growth stages.
Irrigation and Nutrient Management
Concordia is sensitive to moisture fluctuations, which can lead to cracking or secondary growth. Consistent irrigation is critical, particularly during the early leaf development phase and the rapid root-filling stage. However, irrigation must be tapered off 2–3 weeks before harvest to improve shelf life and skin quality. Nitrogen application should be balanced; excessive nitrogen late in the season can reduce storage quality, so prioritize potassium to enhance sugar content and tissue density.
