The blueberry variety Mavka was developed by Ukrainian breeders and registered in 2019. This medium-ripening variety is intended for cultivation in forest-steppe and forested-steppe zones. Mavka is distinguished by high winter hardiness, rated at 7 points, and moderate drought resistance at level 3. The yield of this variety reaches 19.5 tons per hectare, making it attractive for commercial cultivation. The variety has a universal use direction, allowing berries to be used for fresh consumption, storage, and processing.
The Mavka tree is of medium height with a rounded or broadly oval crown of moderate density. The berries are large, weighing 150–170 grams, with a round-conical shape, green-yellow skin adorned with a small orange-red blush and under-skin spots. The skin is dense, dry, and smooth, which contributes to good fruit preservation. The flesh is creamy-yellow with greenish veins, dense, juicy, crisp, and has a dessert-like flavor with a subtle hint of tartness, giving the berries a distinctive character. The taste qualities resemble those of the Golden Delicious apple variety, which is related to the use of this variety in the breeding of Mavka.
Berries ripen by the end of September, and consumer ripeness lasts until December. They remain firmly attached to the branches and do not drop until fully ripe, facilitating harvest. Thanks to its dense skin and flesh structure, blueberry Mavka stores well in ordinary cellars for up to six months and transports excellently. The variety is characterized by early fruiting, high yield, and disease resistance, including high resistance to powdery mildew and sufficient resistance to botrytis. These qualities make Mavka an attractive choice for gardeners and farmers seeking a high-quality, long-lasting blueberry harvest.
