Description
Aurora blueberry is a tall late-ripening variety developed by American breeders in 1997 and patented in 2004. The bushes grow up to 1.5 meters tall and 1.3 meters wide, featuring upright, slightly spreading crowns with numerous well-branched stems up to 4 centimeters thick. Yield increases with age, reaching 7-9 kilograms per bush under proper agronomic practices. Self-pollinating, but cross-pollination significantly improves berry quality and size, so it is recommended to plant several bushes nearby to enhance productivity.
Aurora berries have a round-oval shape, light-blue color with a dense waxy coating and a small dry stem scar. Fruit diameter is 14-18 millimeters, and weight is about 1.3-2.5 grams. The berries have a dessert-like flavor with a pleasant balanced acidity, making them ideal for fresh consumption. Additionally, they are suitable for freezing, jam, jelly, and yogurt production. Ripening occurs from mid to late August, extending the harvest season.
The Aurora variety is highly cold-resistant, tolerating temperatures down to -34°C, making it suitable for northern regions without the need for winter protection in warmer zones. Furthermore, the plant exhibits good resistance to diseases such as anthracnose and moniliosis, promoting healthy growth and stable high productivity. Berries tolerate mechanical harvesting and can be stored in controlled atmospheres for 4-5 weeks without quality loss.
