Bochonok

The Bochonok apple variety is the result of breeding at the South-Urals Research Institute of Horticulture and Potato Growing, developed by crossing the Borovinka and Ural'skoye Rebristoe varieties. The tree is medium-sized, reaching a height of up to 4 meters, with a rare inverted pyramidal crown. It begins to bear fruit in the fifth to sixth year after planting, with a yield of about 4 tons per hectare. The variety is distinguished by its frost resistance, making it suitable for cultivation in the Ural region.

The fruits of the Bochonok variety have an elongated-cylindrical shape with wide ribs resembling a little barrel, which gave the variety its name. Apples are of medium weight, about 72-80 grams, with a maximum weight reaching 136 grams. The skin is green in shade with a blurred red blush, covered with a medium-density dry skin. The flesh is creamy, tender, juicy, with a sour-sweet taste and characteristic spicy notes, giving the apples a dessert character.

The fruit ripening period is at the end of August – beginning of September, which classifies the variety as summer. Apples can be stored for a month, and according to some data, up to two months under proper storage conditions. Fruits are formed on ringlets and fruit sprouts. Despite the high taste qualities and frost resistance, the variety has low resistance to scab, which requires attention during care and plant protection.
