For high-quality germination, seeds require cold stratification, which is why autumn sowing often yields better results. The sowing depth should not exceed 0.5–1 cm, as the seeds are small and highly sensitive to soil density.

When using the seedling method, seeds are planted in trays during March. Seedlings are ready for transplanting after 45–50 days, once the risk of night frost has passed, which is critical for the development of young plants.

The planting pattern is selected to allow for mechanized maintenance, with the optimal spacing being 45–60 cm between rows and 20–25 cm between individual plants within the row.

Plant density directly affects leafiness; therefore, thinning out crops is unacceptable for maintaining plantation productivity during the second and third years of vegetation.

The crop prefers well-lit areas, as shading significantly reduces the concentration of essential oils in the foliage. The plant is quite drought-tolerant but cannot withstand stagnant water in the root system.

The best soils for this crop are light sandy loam or loamy chernozem with a neutral or slightly alkaline pH level. Avoid waterlogged and acidic soils where the plant is prone to root rot.

Nepeta supina demonstrates high winter hardiness in temperate climates. In northern regions, light mulching of the planting area is recommended for winter if snowless and frosty weather is expected.

During the active growth period, the crop requires moderate watering, especially in the budding phase. Excessive nitrogen fertilization can lead to vigorous vegetative growth at the expense of essential oil quality.

Timely weeding is a key success factor, as seedlings grow slowly in their first year and are easily suppressed by aggressive weeds.

The main phytopathological problems are related to excessive soil moisture. Powdery mildew is the most common fungal disease, manifesting as a white coating on the leaves during temperature fluctuations.

Root rot (Fusarium) occurs in waterlogged areas, leading to wilting and the death of the entire plant. Biofungicides are used preventively to combat fungal infections.

Among pests, aphids and spider mites cause the most damage by feeding on young shoots. Regular monitoring of the plantation during the active growth period allows for the early detection of infestation sites.

Plant bugs can also damage tissues, causing leaf deformation and reducing the output of marketable products. The use of insecticides on essential oil crops is strictly limited by pre-harvest intervals.

Harvesting is performed during the mass flowering phase when the concentration of essential oils in the aerial parts reaches its peak. This usually occurs in mid-summer during dry and sunny weather.

The upper part of the stems, about 20–30 cm long, is cut, taking care not to damage the lower woody part of the plant to allow for subsequent regeneration.

After mowing, the green mass must be sent for drying or processing immediately. During natural drying, the raw material is laid out in a thin layer in the shade, protected from direct sunlight.

Properly dried material retains a rich aroma and natural color, which is highly valued in the production of herbal teas, additives, and the perfume industry.

Nepeta supina is a perennial, so with proper agrotechnology, it can provide harvests in the same field for up to 5–7 years, gradually decreasing in productivity toward the end of this period.
