Seeds are typically sown in early spring, ideally from late March to April, when the danger of hard frost has passed. Direct sowing requires a fine, loose seedbed to ensure uniform germination.

For indoor propagation, sowing in seed trays during February allows for a longer growing season. The seeds require light to germinate, so they should be only lightly pressed into the surface of the soil.

Seedlings need to be transplanted with care to avoid root damage. Once they reach a height of 5–7 cm, they can be hardened off and moved to their final outdoor location.

Spacing is essential for the health of the plant. A distance of 20 to 30 cm between plants prevents overcrowding and facilitates the necessary airflow around the foliage.

Fungal diseases are the primary concern for Dianthus laricifolius, particularly rust and various leaf spot pathogens that thrive in humid, stagnant environments.

Pests like aphids and spider mites can be problematic during hot, dry spells. Monitoring the undersides of the leaves is crucial for early detection of these populations.

Root rot is almost exclusively a result of poor drainage or overwatering. Once rot is visible, salvaging the plant is difficult, so prevention via proper soil structure is key.

Slugs and snails may target young, tender seedlings in the spring. Protective barriers or organic bait can be used if pest pressure becomes excessive in the garden.
