Seeding equipment must be calibrated for precise distribution to avoid excessive burial of the seeds. Adhering to optimal timing allows the plant to maximize the use of winter moisture reserves for active spring vegetation growth.

Downy mildew (peronospora) also poses a risk, particularly in years with frequent rainfall. The disease causes premature yellowing of the leaves and weakens the plant as a whole.
