Chamorchis

The geographic distribution of this plant is restricted to the European Alps and parts of the Carpathians. It is found at high altitudes, typically growing in calcareous grasslands, mountain pastures, and rocky crevices where environmental conditions remain cold throughout the year.

Botanically, Chamorchis is characterized by its miniature habit, often standing only a few centimeters tall. It possesses a delicate root system that relies on a symbiotic relationship with specific soil fungi, a trait common among many alpine orchids, which makes it difficult to cultivate outside its natural habitat.

The climate requirements include high humidity levels during the growing season and long, cold winters covered by snow. The plant is extremely sensitive to changes in soil chemistry and will not thrive in soils that are not sufficiently alkaline or well-drained, which limits its presence to specific geological zones.

From an agricultural standpoint, Chamorchis is not a crop. It has no commercial value in terms of production and is primarily of interest to botanists and conservationists. Due to its scarcity and strict habitat dependency, it is protected under various conservation regulations across its range.
