The winter wheat variety Balaton is a medium-height, early-maturing plant with a high yield potential of 90-120 c/ha. It is characterized by low growth, good tillering, and resistance to lodging and shattering, which contributes to a stable harvest. The variety is suitable for cultivation in the Polissia and forest-steppe regions, where it demonstrates high winter hardiness and drought resistance, confirmed by ratings of 8-9 points in state variety trials. Balaton exhibits high resistance to major diseases, including powdery mildew, rust, and fusarium, ensuring reliable cultivation under various climatic conditions. The vegetation period of the variety is 260-280 days, corresponding to the early-maturing group. The recommended seeding rate is approximately 400-420 germinating seeds per square meter, which is optimal for achieving maximum productivity. The grain of the Balaton variety has high baking qualities: protein content ranges from 12.5 to 13.5%, and raw gluten content reaches 27-28.6%. The test weight is approximately 790 g/l, and the thousand-grain weight is within the range of 40-45 g. These characteristics make the variety valuable for producing high-quality flour and bakery products.
