Wheat variety 'Perspective Odessa' is an early maturing, awned winter wheat variety developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute — National Center for Seed Production and Variety Evaluation of Ukraine. This variety is characterized by vigorous growth and development of plants in the autumn period, as well as the ability to rapidly and repeatedly harden, ensuring high resistance to late sowing. Morphologically, the variety is similar to the 'Octava Odessa' variety. Plants are low-growing, with a height of 102–109 cm, bearing pyramidal white ears 11.3–11.8 cm long and large red kernels weighing 43.2–45.8 g per 1000 kernels. Productive tillering is high — 4.2–5.3 stems per plant.
The variety is recommended for cultivation in the steppe, forest-steppe, and Polissia zones of Ukraine. It exhibits stable yield performance across various agronomic backgrounds and high efficiency in utilizing low and medium doses of nitrogen fertilizers (60–90 kg N per hectare). 'Perspective Odessa' is suitable for cultivation following non-traditional predecessors such as sunflower, rapeseed, mustard, and flax. The vegetation period is 285–287 days, and the variety matures 1–2 days later than the 'Antonovka' variety.
The grain quality is high: protein content ranges from 12.5% to 13.7%, gluten content from 25.3% to 33%, and flour strength reaches 355–395 arbitrary units. The variety exhibits high resistance to major diseases and stress factors, including lodging (7.6 points), stem rust (8.7 points), drought (8.3 points), frost (8.3 points), brown rust, fusarium, and powdery mildew (all at 8.3 points). Average yield ranges from 5.18 to 5.66 tons per hectare, confirmed by multi-year trials. Thus, 'Perspective Odessa' is a reliable and productive wheat variety suitable for a wide range of agro-climatic conditions in Ukraine.
