Wheat SU Tarroca

Betting on stability: The yield potential of winter wheat ZU Tarroca

When planning crop rotation with a focus on maximum output and managed risk, agronomists turn to intensive genetics. The German variety ZU Tarroca from Nordsaat Saatzucht is a specialized tool for farmers accustomed to working with high stem density who want to achieve stable yields of 11–12 tons per hectare.

Agronomic Profile and Resilience

The primary function of this variety is to efficiently convert high-level agronomy into grain mass. At a height of 70–80 cm, ZU Tarroca exhibits phenomenal lodging resistance. This is critical when applying high nitrogen rates, where traditional tall varieties risk falling flat after summer storms. With a winter hardiness rating of 9, the variety confidently withstands harsh winters, making it a reliable choice for regions with unstable snow cover.

Protection and Productivity

In high infection pressure environments, ZU Tarroca demonstrates comprehensive resistance. The variety addresses the key challenges of intensive farming:

• Brown Rust: Built-in genetic resistance that reduces reliance on additional fungicide applications.
• Fusarium and Powdery Mildew: Effective protection against diseases that typically threaten yields during the grain-filling phase.

With a recommended stand density of 4.5–5.0 million productive stems per hectare, the variety forms robust ears. Its vegetation period (90–100 days) is optimized for efficient harvest scheduling.

Practical Application

ZU Tarroca is an ideal fit for operations practicing intensive wheat cultivation on fertile soils. Farmers value this soft wheat variety for its predictability: when fertilizer protocols are followed, it maintains its potential even in stress years. It is a technological solution for high-standard farming operations, ensuring that yield potential is a calculation, not a gamble.
