MV 04-87 is a winter wheat variety of high intensity, possessing high resistance to extreme drought conditions and adapted to changing climate. Plants are medium-height, about 97-102 cm tall, with high productive tillering and well-awarded ears. The vegetation period is approximately 278-288 days, corresponding to medium-late maturing times. The variety is characterized by high frost and winter hardiness, as well as resistance to lodging, shattering, and grain germination in the ear, ensuring stable yields in various agro-climatic zones, including the Forest Steppe and Polissya.
The genetic yield potential of MV 04-87 reaches 11.2-12.8 t/ha, while actual yields in state trials ranged from 7.1 to 10.2 t/ha, confirming the variety's high productivity. Seeds have a 1000-grain weight of approximately 40-42 g, which contributes to good germination and uniform plant development. The seeding rate is 3.5-4.5 million seeds per hectare, which is optimal for achieving maximum yield.
The grain quality is characterized by high protein content (13.2-14.2%) and gluten (29.4-35%), ensuring high flour strength (up to 420 arbitrary units) and excellent baking properties. The variety is resistant to major diseases, including powdery mildew, fusarium, brown and yellow rust, leaf septoria, which reduces the risk of yield losses and the need for intensive chemical protection.
