Melody Odessa

Melody Odessa is a winter soft wheat of high-yield, universal-use type, developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Testing. The variety belongs to the lutescens group and is characterized by a cylindrical, medium-density, medium-length ear, oval-lanceolate glumes, straight awns and shoulders, and elongated kernels. The vegetation period is 282-284 days, making it a medium-early and fast-maturing variety.

Plants are of medium height — from 85 to 100 cm — and exhibit high resistance to lodging and seed shattering on stubble during standstill and rain, as well as resistance to wilting. The variety’s frost and winter hardiness is above average, and its drought resistance is exceptionally high. Melody Odessa demonstrates resistance to diseases such as brown rust, root rot, fusarium, septoria, pyrenophora, and powdery mildew, ensuring stable yields under various climatic conditions.

Wheat is recommended for cultivation in all regions of Ukraine, including Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe. The yield potential ranges from 7.1 to 11.4 t/ha, with average yields typically between 8.0-9.0 t/ha. The variety has high protein content — 13.2-14.4% — and gluten content — 30-32% — ensuring excellent baking qualities. Melody Odessa positively responds to the application of nitrogen fertilizers, which enhances both yield and grain quality.
