Melody

Wheat variety Melody is a high-intensity universal winter wheat variety developed by the Breeding-Genetics Institute of the National Center of Seed Production and Variety Testing. The plant is of medium height (86-95 cm), with a semi-erect bush and a medium-density pyramidal ear. The variety is characterized by high resistance to lodging, shattering, and grain germination on the root, ensuring crop safety and high grain quality. The vegetative period is about 282-284 days; the variety is early-maturing and adapted for cultivation in all agroecological zones of Ukraine.

The variety has above-average frost and winter hardiness, as well as exceptional drought resistance. Melody is resistant to brown rust, tolerant to septoria, pyrenophora, and fusarium ear blight, while showing medium resistance to powdery mildew. However, the variety is susceptible to hard head smut, brown rust, and powdery mildew, and is also sensitive to root rots. A high positive response to the application of nitrogen mineral fertilizers contributes to achieving yields from 7.2 to 11.4 tons per hectare.

Grain quality is characterized by high protein content (13.2-14.4%) and gluten (30-32%), which ensures good baking properties. The variety belongs to the lutescens type, with a cylindrical ear of medium length and an oval-lanceolate ear lemma shape. The grain is colored and elongated, which also affects technological characteristics. Melody is recommended for cultivation in various climatic conditions, making it a universal choice for agricultural producers.
