Soft spring wheat of the Kalinka variety is a medium-early variety with a vegetation period of 72-88 days, maturing 2-3 days later than the Iriny variety. Plants are of medium height — 85-90 cm, with a semi-upright bush and weakly expressed straws. The spike is cylindrical, loose, awnless, with short awn-like bristles and colored grains. The weight of 1000 grains varies from 31 to 44 grams, indicating large red grains (type I). The variety belongs to the miltoyum subgroup and was bred by individual selection from the Mal'tsevskaya 110 variety. Kalinka is characterized by high resistance to drought, lodging, and shattering, ensuring stable yields in complex climatic conditions. Average yield in the recommended regions for cultivation — Orenburg Oblast and the Republic of Bashkortostan — is about 21.5 centners per hectare, with a productivity potential of up to 43-50 centners per hectare. The variety demonstrates good adaptive abilities and disease resistance, however, it is susceptible to powdery mildew, stem rust, and septoria, as well as highly susceptible to root rots, hard head smut, powdery mildew, and brown rust. A feature of the Kalinka variety is high grain quality with high protein and gluten content (28-30%), which ensures good baking properties and allows obtaining grain not lower than Class III with a frequency above 95%. Stable and high yield combined with valuable grain quality make this variety attractive for agricultural producers seeking to obtain low-cost and high-quality products.
