Wheat Kalbex

European genetics for high-intensity farming

Winter wheat "Kalbex" from the Czech breeder Selgen is an intensive-type variety designed for high productivity and consistent yield. With its roots in the rigorous breeding programs of the Czech Republic, it has established a solid reputation among growers looking for stability in varying climatic conditions.

Biological characteristics and morphology

Kalbex is a semi-dwarf variety, typically reaching a height of 60–70 cm. This compact morphology is essential for its excellent lodging resistance, even when high-input fertilization programs are applied. By shifting energy away from straw biomass and towards grain development, the variety achieves a notable thousand-kernel weight (TKW) of 45–50 grams. This ensures a high potential yield, reaching up to 9–10 tonnes per hectare.

Phytosanitary resilience

One of the primary benefits of incorporating Kalbex into crop rotation is its robust health profile. The variety was specifically selected to resist common pathogens that threaten crops during early spring development:

• Root rot and snow mold: Kalbex demonstrates strong resistance to these winter-spring threats, preserving plant population density.
• Powdery mildew: The variety shows strong genetic defense, reducing the pressure of fungal infections during the stem elongation phase.

Market positioning and usage

Kalbex by Selgen is targeted at professional agricultural enterprises focused on intensive cultivation technologies. Its short stature and strong immunity against stem-based and fungal diseases allow farmers to manage their input costs effectively. It is a reliable, high-yield choice for producers who aim to maximize grain quality and tonnage per hectare without compromising on the structural integrity of the crop during the maturation phase.
