Wheat Khersonska 86

Stability in the Steppe: The Potential of «Khersonska 86»

The winter soft wheat variety «Khersonska 86», developed by the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the NAAS, remains a focus for farmers in southern regions due to its genetic adaptation to harsh climatic conditions. Unlike high-intensity foreign hybrids that require optimal conditions, this variety demonstrates reliability where others fail.

Agronomic Profile and Disease Resistance

The key feature of «Khersonska 86» is its complex resistance to pathogens that traditionally decrease yields in the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine. The variety effectively stands up to:

• Brown rust;
• Root rot;
• Powdery mildew.

These traits allow agronomists to optimize fungicide costs, reducing chemical pressure without sacrificing the plant’s biological potential. Good lodging resistance ensures high harvest efficiency, minimizing field losses.

Who is this variety for?

«Khersonska 86» is an optimal choice for farms operating in high-risk farming zones. While it may not break records for intensive technologies requiring maximum fertilizer input, it excels in stability. Its main strength is consistency: the variety is forgiving of minor agronomic errors and maintains high grain quality even during unfavorable weather conditions during the filling stage. It is the perfect choice for the farmer who values economic efficiency over the pursuit of extreme yield peaks.
