Wheat Hollow

Technological Profile of Winter Wheat «Azhurnaya»

The selection solutions embedded in the soft winter wheat «Azhurnaya» by PP «Sort» are aimed at stabilizing yields in the unstable climate of Ukraine. As a representative of soft wheat varieties, this hybrid (cultivar) is focused on achieving a balance between adaptability to winter stresses and intensive grain filling during the spring-summer period.

Morphophysiological Features

A key advantage of this selection is the architecture of the stand. The name of the variety reflects the specific structure of the ear and foliage, which in field conditions ensures:

• Optimal leaf area index, reducing the risk of overheating the crops;
• Effective distribution of photosynthesis directed towards ear filling;
• High resistance to lodging, critical for obtaining high-quality commercial grain.

The engineering of the «Azhurnaya» variety implies a high potential for tillering. When agrotechnical sowing dates are met, the plant forms a powerful root system capable of effectively utilizing moisture from deeper soil horizons, which becomes a decisive factor during spring droughts.

Agronomic Significance

As a winter crop, «Azhurnaya» possesses genetically fixed frost resistance, necessary to survive the winter period without critical losses in plant density. The soft wheat type makes the variety in demand for the milling industry, as the endosperm structure allows for high flour yields during processing. The work of PP «Sort» breeders focuses on creating a crop capable of realizing its genetic potential with moderate mineral fertilizer application, making it an economically justified choice for a wide range of agricultural enterprises.
