Gefest

The winter wheat variety 'Gefest', registered in the State Register in 2020, is a strawless variety developed by the Odessa Selection Private Institute. It is characterized by high yield and resistance to major diseases and pests, making it popular among farmers. The vegetation period lasts from 255 to 271 days, and plant height ranges from 84.4–94 cm. The 1000-grain weight at standard moisture level of 14% reaches 41.8 g, indicating good grain quality. 'Gefest' has high protein content — from 13.6 to 13.9%, as well as raw gluten — 27%. The flour strength is rated at 200 conditional units, ensuring excellent loaf volume from 100 g of flour — up to 930 ml. These characteristics make this variety one of the best for baking qualities, confirmed by its recognition among leading winter wheat varieties. Additionally, the variety demonstrates good winter hardiness (8 points by field assessment) and cold resistance (5 points according to the V.Ya. Yuriev Institute of Plant Husbandry). Special attention has been paid to the variety's resistance to various stress factors and diseases. It shows high resistance to lodging (7–8 points), ear shattering (9 points), drought (7–9 points), powdery mildew (7–8 points), rust (7–9 points), Fusarium ear rot (6–9 points), as well as pests such as the wheat midge and the cereal bug (8–9 points each). Thanks to these characteristics, the variety consistently yields high crops even under risky farming conditions and on various agro-ecological zones, making it an optimal choice for wide use in agriculture.
