Originator — Institute of Plant Growing named after V.Ya.Yuryev, NAAN.
Registered in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2004 for cultivation in the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine.
Variety distinguishing features. Variety leuсurum — white, awned, dense, glabrous, cylindrical ears, 6-8 cm long, non-shattering, non-breakable, moderately drooping. Awns white throughout the ear length, long, parallel, rough, toothed. Kernel medium, 1000 kernels weight 40-45 g, amber, elongated, median groove, weak phenolic coloration. Glume medium, lanceolate, weakly veined, short and sharp teeth. Peduncle narrow, angled, strongly keeled. Plant erect, stem strong, sturdy.
Biological features. Forest-steppe ecotype, medium-maturing, vegetation period duration 77-110 days. Resistant to lodging, plant height 85-100 cm. Ear easily threshes. Resistance to stem rust, brown rust, and powdery mildew is at standard level, resistance to stripe rust exceeds standard.
Agronomic features. Potential yield 5.5 t/ha. Gluten content 34-36%, protein content 14.5-16.5%. The exceptional feature of the CHADO variety is the combination of high pasta qualities with excellent baking properties. This feature attracted pasta producers and milling industry specialists, resulting in increased demand for the variety’s seeds.
Agronomic requirements. Seeding rate 4.5 million viable seeds per hectare. The variety exhibits high ecological plasticity, facilitating its wide adoption in production. It shows enhanced resistance to lodging and good response to intensive cultivation technology. Seeds must be treated with fungicide and insecticide prior to sowing.
