Wheat Avenyu

Dutch breeding for high-yield farming

Winter wheat 'Avenue' from the Dutch breeding company Nickerson Zwaan represents the intensive type of crop developed for consistently high yields in modern European conditions. This soft, awnless wheat variety has become a staple for farmers prioritizing technological efficiency and yield predictability.

Agronomic potential and morphology

The variety is characterized by its compact structure: plant height typically ranges from 60 to 70 cm. Its low-growing habit, combined with a robust root system, provides 'Avenue' with excellent lodging resistance, which is critical for high-density planting and intensive fertilization. The thousand-kernel weight (TKW) ranges from 45 to 50 grams, with a gluten content of 20–25%, making the grain suitable for high-quality flour production.

Biological protection and performance

A key strength of 'Avenue' is its comprehensive resistance to common temperate-climate pathogens. The variety effectively withstands threats such as root rot, septoria, and Fusarium head blight. This significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications and minimizes the risk of losses from leaf spot, powdery mildew, and brown rust. Investing in this type of seed pays off in yield potential: with proper management, production levels reach 9 to 12 tons per hectare, making it a highly attractive choice for large-scale agricultural operations.
