The soft winter wheat variety Vega is a medium-maturing and medium-height crop with high resistance to lodging, ensuring stable high yields of grain. This variety is characterized by winter hardiness and drought tolerance, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions. The 1000-grain weight ranges from 36 to 46 grams, and the grain has high test weight — 814 g/L. Vega is resistant to shattering, which helps preserve the harvest during harvesting.
The variety is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the Republic of Adygea, Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, the Azov and Southern zones of Rostov Oblast, as well as the Polissia and Steppe zones of Ukraine. Vega demonstrates high resistance to major wheat diseases, such as brown rust, powdery mildew, root rots, leaf septoria, and fusarium head blight, significantly reducing the risk of yield losses.
Vega is characterized by high productivity with a potential yield of more than 110 c/ha (11 t/ha) according to the breeder, and in various regions of Ukraine, the yield ranges from 6.9 to 9.5 t/ha. The grain of this variety contains 14.0–14.9 % crude protein and 26.2–30.4 % crude gluten, making it valuable for producing high-quality flour. The variety is suitable for sowing at optimal times, including February windows, but no later than March 8, allowing it to be used as a safety crop.
