Description GALAN
Grape variety Galan is a Bulgarian table-technical variety of folk selection, belonging to the ecological-geographical group of varieties of the Black Sea basin. This medium-late variety ripens after 140-150 days and is characterized by large conical clusters of medium density weighing about 400 grams. Berries are round, yellowish-green in color with a brown burn on the sun-exposed side, weighing 4.5-5 grams, with a dense, edible skin and fleshy-juicy pulp. The berry taste is harmonious, balanced, and very pleasant, with high sugar accumulation. The flower is bisexual, bushes possess great growth vigor. Galan variety differs in stable and high yield — from 120 to 180 centners per hectare. Leaves are large, round, five-lobed, dark green and matte with a slight pubescence. Berry skin is thin, covered with a light waxy bloom. Despite moderate winter hardiness (withstands temperatures down to -19 to -21°C), the variety has low resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, but is relatively resistant to gray mold of berries. Soil requirements are high, which requires careful approach to site selection and agronomy. Galan is versatile in use: its berries are suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for production of cognac base materials and juices. Thanks to its high productivity and good adaptability to various climatic conditions, the variety is suitable for both beginners and experienced gardeners. Low need for fertilizers and good disease resistance make it easy to grow and ensure a stable harvest.
