The Stepnjak grape variety is a technical late-ripening variety with a productive period of about 140 days. Bushes are vigorous with airy crowns; leaves are medium-sized, cuneate or round, 3- or 5-lobed. Bunches are medium or large, conical in shape, weighing 200 grams and more. Berries are medium-sized, round, white in color, weighing about 2 grams. The pulp is fleshy and juicy with a harmonious taste; sugar content reaches 22%, and acidity is 8.5 g/L.
The variety has high winter hardiness, withstanding frosts down to -25°C, while light covering is recommended for additional protection. Stepnjak is characterized by high resistance to diseases such as downy and powdery mildew, with maximum infection ratings of 2.5-3.0 and 3.0-3.5, respectively. For prevention, 1-2 treatments against downy mildew and 2-3 against powdery mildew are required. Bushes are capable of producing fruit-bearing shoots from replacement and dormant buds, indicating high regenerative ability of the variety.
Stepnyak grape is widely used for producing table wines and blends, and is also suitable for making juices. Thanks to its characteristics and resistance, it is a reliable choice for growing in regions with a moderate climate and a late ripening period.
