Description

Krasnostop Zolotovskiy is an ancient Don technical grape variety belonging to the eco-geographical group of varieties of the Black Sea basin. This variety is characterized by a medium-late maturation period, which in the Rostov region is about 136 days with a sum of active temperatures of 2820°C. Bunches have moderate vigor and good shoot ripening, while only a minimal amount of suckers is formed. Leaves are small, rounded, three-lobed with a wide middle lobe, smooth and slightly shiny, covered with dense cobwebby pubescence underneath. Flowers are bisexual, which contributes to good pollination and crop formation.

Krasnostop Zolotovskiy has small, conical, medium-density clusters, sometimes loose. Berries are small, rounded, dark blue with a purple hue and a dense waxy bloom. Skin is of medium thickness, flesh is juicy, without a pronounced varietal aroma, making the grape universal for various types of processing. Berry weight varies from 1.5 to 2 grams, while cluster mass reaches 100–180 grams. The variety has moderate frost resistance up to -22 °C and is relatively resistant to fungal diseases, however, it requires preventive fungicide treatments.

Krasnostop Zolotovskiy is widely used for the production of red table and dessert wines, and is also included in blends of famous sparkling wines of the Tsimlyansk type. Wines from this variety are distinguished by a rich pomegranate color and a rich bouquet with notes of blueberry, elderberry, blackthorn, forest berries, and black pepper. Due to good aging ability, such wines preserve and develop their taste qualities over time. The yield of the variety is 60-80 centners per hectare, which makes it attractive for viticulturists and winemakers of the region.
