Vetch NIKOLSKAYA

Field stability: Why «Nikolskaya» is the choice for your forage base

The spring vetch variety «Nikolskaya», developed by the Federal Research Center for Legumes and Grops, is designed to deliver predictable yields of green mass and seeds. Unlike many early-maturing varieties prone to lodging, this cultivar demonstrates high resilience to adverse weather conditions, which is crucial in regions with variable moisture levels.

Key variety specifications

• Vegetation period: 90–110 days, allowing for flexible integration into various crop rotation schemes.
• Primary use: Production of high-quality haylage, green forage, and seed material.
• Adaptability: A variety bred for specific temperate climate zones with proven environmental stability.

The core advantage of «Nikolskaya» is the balance between high protein content in green mass and harvesting efficiency. While some varieties require complex machinery adjustments due to stem lodging, this variety maintains an upright position until it reaches physiological maturity. This significantly reduces harvest losses and boosts the overall profitability per hectare.

For agricultural enterprises focused on dairy farming, this variety acts as a reliable foundation for forage production. It is an optimal choice for those looking to replace imported hybrids that demand intensive plant protection programs. «Nikolskaya» is less demanding regarding heavy fungicide use while maintaining the full productive potential established by the developer.

A point of consideration is the variety's sensitivity to excessive sowing density. To maximize protein yield per hectare, it is recommended to strictly follow the regional sowing rate guidelines to ensure proper light penetration and moisture access to the lower canopy.
