Vetch Nitro

A High-Efficiency Nitrogen Fixer for Soil Restoration

The 'Nitro' vetch (Vicia) variety is a Ukrainian-bred product specifically engineered as a cover crop. Unlike common forage varieties, this hybrid is selected for its high biomass production and rapid accumulation of organic nitrogen, making it a critical tool for sustainable and intensive farming systems.

Why Nitro stands out

• Exceptional early growth rates: The variety quickly creates a canopy that suppresses weed growth naturally, reducing the need for herbicides.
• Optimized nitrogen fixation: It features an enhanced capacity for symbiotic nitrogen fixation, significantly reducing the demand for mineral fertilizers for the following main crop.
• Adaptive resilience: The variety shows robust performance in diverse Ukrainian climates, making it suitable for both autumn and spring planting cycles.

Usage Strategy

Nitro excels in soil types prone to degradation, effectively improving structure and nutrient content. It is best used as a catch crop in a rotation schedule. For maximum agricultural benefit, the green biomass should be incorporated into the soil during the early flowering phase. At this stage, nitrogen concentration in the plant tissue is at its peak, and the stems remain soft, which facilitates rapid decomposition and mineral absorption.

Limitations

This variety requires adequate soil moisture during the germination phase. In extremely dry autumn conditions, careful attention to planting depth (4-5 cm) is necessary to ensure consistent plant stands. It is less effective on highly acidic soils without prior liming.

Choosing 'Nitro' is a strategic move for farms looking to transition towards organic practices or those aiming to lower chemical input costs. It acts as a field-based bioreactor, naturally preparing the soil for high-yield primary crops.
