Lucerne variety Vera is a perennial dicotyledonous plant widely used in agriculture for animal feeding. This variety belongs to the group of sino-hybrid alfalfa and is characterized by tall plants with strong rounded stems up to 100 cm high and trifoliate leaves with round or oblong leaflets. The flowers are bluish-violet in color and collected in panicle inflorescences. A feature of this variety is its ability for self-pollination, which ensures stable fruiting and high yield of both green mass and seeds. Alfalfa Vera has a high forage value due to the record protein content - about 20%, making it one of the best sources of protein among fodder grasses. One centner of hay contains 48 feed units and 10.3 kg of digestible protein. The plant is resistant to major diseases, including root rot, and also has good frost resistance and drought tolerance. Thanks to its powerful taproot system, alfalfa improves soil structure, reduces its acidity, and helps cleanse it of weeds. For sowing, it is recommended to use prepared soil, burying the seeds at a depth of 2-3 cm with subsequent harrowing immediately after sowing. The seeding rate is 16-18 kg/ha in humid regions and 14-16 kg/ha in arid conditions, when sown in grass mixtures - 8-10 kg/ha. The optimal sowing time is spring at an air temperature of 18-20°C. Alfalfa allows you to get several cuts a year, which provides stable and high production of forage mass. The seeds are small, weighing about 2-2.5 g per 1000 pieces. The variety was bred in the Poltava region and is recommended for cultivation in steppe and forest-steppe zones.
