Vegetable Pea Simcoe

Growing Simko: The Strube Approach

When planning a vegetable rotation, the choice of variety is critical. Simko, a vegetable pea variety from the German producer Strube, is designed for growers who prioritize predictability and efficiency. From an agronomist's perspective, working with this hybrid is about managing variables through precise timelines and consistent field performance.

Field Performance and Management

The 50–60 day vegetation period allows for precise scheduling of sowing and harvesting, which is essential for processing plants or fresh market supply. The rapid germination and uniform growth make early-stage crop care straightforward. The large seed size is a major advantage during harvest, minimizing sieve losses and ensuring a consistent yield weight across the field.

Pod Structure and Yield Quality

The pod length of 8–9 cm, paired with a sharp, pointed shape, is perfectly suited for mechanized harvesting. Each pod contains 7–8 peas, offering excellent filling capacity. This high density is what makes Simko a reliable performer in terms of total yield per hectare. In practice, proper mineral nutrition ensures that the peas remain high-quality, retaining their color and texture during transit and storage.

The Advantage of Strube Breeding

The main reason to choose Strube is the lack of unpredictability. Even in unstable weather conditions, Simko maintains its growth rhythm, which is vital for profitability. Uniform ripening allows for a single-pass harvest, significantly reducing fuel consumption and machine wear. If you are looking for a variety that offers a well-defined development cycle and a high output of marketable product, Simko proves to be a top-tier choice for professional pea cultivation.
