Virginia 15 is a tobacco variety known for its sweet and fruity-smoke aroma. It is widely used in factory-made cigarettes and pipe blends due to its mild taste and ease of processing.
The variety originates from Virginia state (USA), grows quickly, reaching a height of 200–220 cm and leaves up to 60 cm long. Bushes have thick stems about 5 cm in diameter. Leaves are light green, wide with slightly wavy edges, smooth surface, and slight curvature. Technically suitable leaves range from 43 to 50 per bush, size approximately 30×15 cm.
Optimal leaf maturity occurs in mid-August (115 days after sowing). Harvest time is determined by the onset of leaf color change. To achieve maximum flavor fullness, leaves are typically aged for two years. Nicotine content is 1.5–2%. Tasting score – 39.2 points, Shmuka number 0.12–0.16.
This variety is especially suitable for beginners: it is easy to control and matures quickly, while the smoke aroma is bright with a slight acidity. Thanks to these characteristics, Virginia 15 remains a popular choice among cigarette and pipe blend manufacturers.
