Tobacco Virginia 27

Stable tobacco production in temperate climates

Virginia 27, developed by the Transcarpathian Institute of Agro-Industrial Production (UAAS), is a reliable staple for growers operating in Ukraine. The primary advantage of this cultivar is its predictability: it thrives in both open fields and greenhouses, displaying robust immunity to the most common agricultural threats, such as black root rot and tobacco mosaic virus. This genetic resilience allows operators to significantly reduce the frequency of fungicide applications.

Cultivation and handling

The medium-leaf structure simplifies the entire production cycle. Growers report that the plant requires minimal side-shoot pruning, making manual harvesting and field maintenance efficient and low-cost. Because of its tolerance to temperature fluctuations, it performs well in variable climate conditions, reducing the risk of crop failure. The maintenance cycle is straightforward, making it an ideal choice for both large-scale professional farms and specialized small-scale plots.

Usage and sensory profile

With a nicotine content of 1.0–2.0%, this variety is highly regarded for its utility in crafting balanced aromatic blends. It is not an overpowering tobacco; rather, it acts as a high-quality base that complements other varieties within a blend without dominating the palate. The leaves are easy to process during the curing and fermentation stages, showing excellent consistency. For an operator, this means less time troubleshooting the curing process and a more uniform end-product that meets high market standards for crafting tobacco blends.
