Growing the «Yubileyny» variety: A Grower’s Perspective

Working with the «Yubileyny» tobacco variety by VNIITTI, you immediately notice that the breeders focused on climate resilience. This variety is all about consistency. After several seasons on the field, its behavior is predictable and reliable.

Disease Resistance and Maintenance

The biggest challenge for any tobacco grower is crop failure due to disease. «Yubileyny» is a real survivor. While other varieties might suffer from root rot during damp summers, this hybrid stands firm. Its natural resistance to downy mildew (peronosporosis) and tobacco mosaic virus significantly cuts down on the need for fungicides. From a maintenance standpoint, it responds well to timely suckering—skip this step, and the leaves will lack the necessary density.

Quality and Yield

This is a classic smoking tobacco with a mild profile. With a nicotine content ranging between 0.5–1.0%, it is perfect for those who prefer light-to-medium blends. The leaves mature evenly, and the drying process is straightforward, requiring no complex or prolonged fermentation. For home growers, this is a significant advantage: the final product is ready for use relatively quickly.

Practical Tips

• Spacing: Give the plants room. Overcrowding leads to lower leaf quality and reduced airflow.
• Irrigation: Avoid waterlogging; the variety prefers precise moisture control.
• Harvesting: Wait for the characteristic light-colored rim to appear on the leaf; that’s when the flavor profile is fully developed.

If you are looking for a reliable variety with predictable outcomes and a low risk of losing your crop to disease, the VNIITTI development is a choice that pays off.
