Timothy Grass DICEROS

Genetic Potential and Selection History

The Diseros timothy grass variety is the result of a rigorous collaboration between leading European agricultural research institutes, including Agroscope and Delley Seeds and Plants. Unlike generic grass mixtures, this variety has undergone strict selection processes by Feldsaaten Freudenberger GmbH&Co.KG, aimed at adapting the crop to challenging climatic conditions while maximizing the nutritional value of the forage biomass.

Agronomic Features and Field Application

The primary objective of the Diseros variety is to form a stable pasture or hayfield sward under intensive management conditions. Integrating Diseros into agricultural systems offers several technical advantages:

• Energy Density: High dry matter digestibility makes this variety a premium component for dairy and beef cattle rations.
• Regenerative Capacity: The variety exhibits superior regrowth rates post-harvest, which is critical for achieving 3-4 full harvests per season.
• Biological Resilience: Excellent lodging resistance and winter hardiness allow the plants to maintain productivity even after unfavorable interseasonal periods.

Technically, Diseros is designed to create durable plant communities. Due to its root system structure, the variety effectively outcompetes weeds, forming a dense turf that resists mechanical damage from livestock hooves and harvesting machinery.

Practical Recommendations

Diseros is recommended for regions with temperate and cold climates requiring grasses with long growing seasons. While the variety thrives with adequate moisture, it performs exceptionally well under standard professional management, consistently outperforming standard wild timothy types in protein and sugar content.
