Fodder beet Detroit

French breeding for professional vegetable production

The 'Detroit' beet variety from the French breeding company Griffaton is a reliable solution for agricultural enterprises aiming for versatility in their supply chain. This variety has established itself as a professional tool for producing uniform, high-quality roots that meet demanding market standards.

Practical application in the field

Agronomists choose 'Detroit' for its predictable performance and high profitability across various market segments:

• Fresh market/Bunching: Excellent root uniformity makes it a perfect candidate for early-season fresh produce sales.
• Industrial processing: An intense dark red flesh without light rings makes it a preferred choice for companies producing juices, canned goods, and pre-cut vegetables.
• Long-term storage: The variety maintains structural integrity, allowing for extended shelf life in climate-controlled warehouses.

Agronomic efficiency

Fungal diseases like Cercospora leaf spot are a common challenge in beet cultivation. The 'Detroit' variety by Griffaton features built-in genetic resistance, which significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications. This lowers production costs while maintaining crop health throughout the 90-100 day growing period.

The roots feature a classic spherical shape, which is highly convenient for mechanized harvesting, washing, and grading. The smooth skin ensures an attractive appearance after storage, while the lack of internal rings guarantees a superior product for any processing application. By integrating 'Detroit' into the crop rotation, farmers can effectively manage their logistics and supply schedules for both processors and retail channels.
