Description
The yellow clover variety «SOSNOVEC» is an early-maturing and high-yielding type that grows rapidly from full spring regrowth to flowering (55‑58 days) and reaches seed maturity in 105‑110 days. Plant height at flowering stage is 105‑125 cm, and 180‑190 cm at seed harvest time. The bush is upright with high branching, the stem is bare, which facilitates processing and increases yield.
«SOSNOVEC» leaves are alternate, trifoliate; each leaf has two entire awl-shaped stipules. Lower leaves are narrowly oval on short petioles, upper leaves are oval on long petioles, ensuring good photosynthetic area and resistance to unfavorable conditions.
The inflorescence is a multi-flowered raceme 13‑15 cm long with 27‑78 drooping bright yellow flowers. The fruit is a one-seeded oval-unequal-sided pod, 5.1‑6.2 mm long and 2.2‑3.1 mm wide, brownish-brown in color with transverse wrinkles. Seeds are oval-shaped, smooth, greenish-yellow (immature – brown spots). Green mass yield averages 290‑310 c/ha over two years, hay – 70‑80 c/ha, seeds – 18‑20 c/ha. Due to high resistance to frost, drought, diseases, and pests, the variety is widely used as a forage, medicinal, honey-producing, and green manure crop in field and forage rotations.
