KATÉC is a two-year variety of yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis Lam.), developed by the FSBSI «Siberian Federal Research Center for Agrobiotechnology of the Russian Academy of Sciences». The plant has an erect, rough and highly branched form with 8‑14 stems. Stems are slightly pubescent, and leafiness ranges from 48 % to 52 %. Bushiness ensures good planting density and efficient use of area.
The variety is distinguished by its early maturity: the growing period up to the first mowing takes only 57‑70 days, and up to seed ripening – about 111 days. This allows you to harvest even in unfavorable climatic conditions. The fruit is an egg-shaped single-seeded pod with a transversely wrinkled surface and dark brown color. Seeds are small, yellow with a pinkish tinge, the weight of 1000 seeds is 1.5 g.
KATÉC demonstrates an average yield of green mass of about 225 c/ha and seeds – 7.9 c/ha. Thanks to resistance to pests and diseases, as well as high productivity in unfavorable conditions, this variety is an excellent honey plant, siderate and forage crop for agriculture.
