The white sainfoin variety «OMY» is mid-season and is characterized by high productivity in both fodder and seed parts. The vegetative period from regrowth to the first cut is 50–80 days, and to seed maturity – 102–134 days. The bush is upright, up to 290 cm high, with weak anthocyanin stem pigmentation and unpubescent nodes. Leaves are oval, green; leaflets are awl-shaped and also unpubescent.
The fodder mass of the variety is characterized by an increased protein content (15.5–21%) and fiber at the level of the standard. Dry matter yield is within 4.8–9.7 t/ha, and seeds – from 0.30 to 8.4 c/ha, which is above average compared to similar varieties. Seeds are kidney-shaped, greenish-yellow or yellow, with 44.9% hardness. The variety is resistant to abiotic factors: high winter hardiness and drought resistance allow its use in forest-steppe and steppe zones.
«OMY» also shows moderate resistance to diseases and pests. It is weakly affected by powdery mildew, and the clover root borer causes average damage. The variety is a good honey plant: bees collect excellent quality sainfoin honey. Due to the combination of high productivity, resistance, and nutritional value, «OMY» represents a reliable choice for farmers seeking effective land use under changing climate conditions.
