White Melilotus «Frost» – a high-yield variety developed by FGBNU Altai Research Institute of Agriculture and belonging to the northern subspecies of the Siberian plain ecotype. It is characterized by its early maturity compared to the standard, which facilitates harvesting: the sward is less tall and coarse, making the plant easier to mow into windrows.
The yield of this variety is high: green mass reaches 22.2 t/ha, dry matter – 5.7 t/ha, and seed quantity – 0.52 tons per hectare. The variety is resistant to spring and autumn frosts, and its drought resistance is at the level of the standard, making «Frost» suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions.
«Frost» is widely used as green fodder, silage, and silage, especially in combination with perennial grass-legume mixtures. Due to its high soil permeability and ability to enrich it with nitrogen, this melilotus is also valued for improving soil quality. Its white flowers attract pollinators, and its soft aroma makes the plant attractive for landscape design.
