Sunflower PRETORIA CLP

Technological potential of Pretoria KLP

French breeding by RAGT focuses on an intensive type of development, and Pretoria KLP is no exception. This simple sunflower hybrid is adapted for the Clearfield (Euro-Lightning) production system, which radically simplifies weed control during early vegetative stages. In fields with high weed pressure, the ability to suppress competitors chemically without stressing the crop is a critical factor in yield formation.

Morphology and vegetative cycle

The vegetation period is 110–120 days, placing this hybrid in the mid-early maturity group. A plant height of 170–180 cm ensures optimal biomass for effective photosynthesis with moderate lodging resistance. The convex, medium-sized head is tightly packed with seeds featuring an oil content of 45–50%, which is a high benchmark for this product line.

Phytosanitary barrier

The genetic architecture of Pretoria KLP is focused on blocking the most dangerous pathogens. Comprehensive resistance to Sclerotinia, Phomopsis, and Phoma allows for minimized fungicide application. Special attention should be paid to its resistance to powdery mildew and various rots—critical areas where up to 20% of yield is typically lost due to crop rotation issues. RAGT's integrated solutions allow the hybrid to maintain stability even under stressful climatic conditions.
