Sugar beet MS FD 1108

Genetic Protection and Root Morphology

French breeding by Florimond-Desprez Veuve et Fils traditionally focuses on the balance between productivity and field endurance. The sugar beet hybrid MC FD 1108 is the result of years of work by the originator to create a form adapted to intensive cultivation technologies.

Phytopathological Resistance as a Basis for Yield

A key factor in selecting MC FD 1108 is its disease resistance profile. In wet summer conditions or cases of crop rotation disruption, rhizomania and cercospora are the primary threats to sugar beet.

• Rhizomania (Necrotic Yellow Vein Virus): The hybrid's genetic protection prevents root system damage, preserving sugar accumulation potential even in infested areas.
• Cercospora: Resistance to this foliar pathogen reduces the need for excessive fungicide applications, optimizing production costs.

Morphotype Features

The root is broad-conical in shape. From a technical standpoint, this geometry facilitates the operation of harvesting machinery, minimizing losses during extraction from the soil. The broad-conical type ensures an optimal weight-to-density ratio, which is critical for uniform sugar distribution and minimizing mechanical damage during harvest. The dense structure of the root contributes to good storage quality and reduces the risk of damage during transportation to sugar factories.
