Field Performance of the Primis Sunflower Hybrid

When implementing the Clearfield technology, choosing the right hybrid is a make-or-break decision for your seasonal margins. The Serbian breeding program from IFVCNS (Novi Sad) has a strong reputation for regional adaptability, and the 'Primis' hybrid is a testament to that balance between robust performance and technological ease.

Operational Insights

From a grower's perspective, consistency is everything. With a 100–110 day vegetation period, 'Primis' hits the sweet spot for harvesting, ensuring maturity without excessive moisture levels. The plant height, ranging from 150 to 160 cm, is optimal for standard headers, allowing for smooth operation and minimal header loss. The medium-sized, convex-shaped heads thresh cleanly, making combine settings straightforward even in varied harvesting conditions.

Management and Disease Control

The standout feature of 'Primis' is its tolerance to imidazolinone herbicides. Integrating the Euro-Lightning (Clearfield) system is seamless; the crop handles the chemical load without vegetative stalling. Furthermore, the hybrid's natural genetic resilience against downy mildew, phomopsis, rust, and powdery mildew significantly reduces the dependency on preventive fungicide applications, saving on input costs without compromising the yield potential.

Harvest Quality

With an oil content of 45–50%, 'Primis' remains a preferred commodity for processors, ensuring better marketability. The black seeds have a high bushel weight, which simplifies logistics and reduces issues at the elevator. Ultimately, 'Primis' is a reliable, low-stress hybrid that excels in fields where weed control is a priority and consistent performance is expected.
