Description Sheriff
SHERIFF — a single-seeded diploid hybrid sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L. ssp. vulgaris var. saccharifera Alef.) on a NE-type sterile base, intended for cultivation in various regions, including the Central Black Earth, North Caucasian, Middle Volga, and Ural regions. This hybrid is characterized by a medium-early maturity period and high yield. In the Central Black Earth region, the average root crop yield reaches 395 c/ha, with a sugar content of 17.9% and sugar recovery of 71.8 c/ha. The average mass of one root is 501 g. In the Penza region, the hybrid exceeded the RMC standard by 92 c/ha in yield, 0.8% in sugar content, and 19.5 c/ha in sugar recovery.

The plant exhibits good resistance to major sugar beet diseases: it is weakly affected by cercosporosis but has increased susceptibility to root maggot and powdery mildew. The root crop has a cylinder-cone shape and a relatively smooth surface, facilitating harvest as it retains less soil. The root system is taproot, penetrating up to 2-3 meters deep, contributing to drought and cold resistance. The vegetative period is about 120 days.

The SHERIFF hybrid is versatile in application: all parts of the plant are useful and can be used for various purposes. Roots are suitable for sugar and syrup production and are widely used in cooking, for example, for making borscht and kvass. Additionally, the plant is used as a fodder crop, making it a profitable and multifunctional choice for agriculture.
