Sugar beet Kalinivskyi

Cultivation practice: The Kalynivskyi sugar beet

The Kalynivskyi sugar beet variety, developed by the Institute of Bioenergy Crops and Sugar Beet of NAAS, offers a stable performance profile for farmers prioritizing predictable yields. Managing this variety does not require drastic deviations from standard agrotechnical maps, allowing for streamlined operations throughout the season.

Disease control and maintenance efficiency

A key operational advantage of Kalynivskyi is its inherent resistance to common threats, which helps maintain profit margins by reducing the need for aggressive chemical interventions. The variety shows robust tolerance to:

• Cercospora leaf spot;
• Powdery mildew;
• Various types of root rot.

For an operator, this results in lower expenditures on fungicides and reduced spray schedule density, effectively lowering the overall chemical load on the crop.

Harvesting characteristics

The medium-sized, cylinder-conical root shape is optimized for mechanical harvesting. This geometry ensures that the roots are extracted from the soil with minimal resistance, significantly reducing wear and tear on harvester digging components. Because the roots are uniform, they suffer less mechanical damage during the sorting and cleaning process in the harvester. Proper growth spacing leads to consistent root development, which simplifies the calibration of harvester depth control and increases operational speed in the field.
