ETNA

Sea buckthorn «ETNA» is a large-fruit variety of berry tree with early ripening in the first half of August. The fruits weigh from 0.7 to 1.0 grams, have an oval or egg-shaped shape and a rich red-orange color. The skin is of medium thickness, the flesh is juicy, with a sweet-sour taste and a slight tartness. The biochemical composition of the fruits includes 5% sugars, about 1.6% acid, 3–5% oil, and more than 100 mg of vitamin C per 100 g of product, making them a valuable source of antioxidants and carotenoids.

The plant is of medium height (200–250 cm) with a rounded, spreading crown of medium density. The bush has a straight trunk, dark brown bark, silver-brown shoots, and light green leaves in the shape of narrow-elliptic. The plant height is 2–2.5 m, and the density of the ear and fruit stalk is 3–4 mm. The variety is distinguished by high yield: from 8 to 16 t/hm² at a planting scheme of 4 × 2 m, which is equivalent to approximately 127 kg/hm² per bush.

«ETNA» has excellent winter hardiness (can withstand temperatures down to –40 °C) and resistance to diseases and pests. It is recommended to grow in well-lit areas, on light, breathable soil rich in organic matter. Moderate watering is necessary, as excess moisture can lead to root rot. The variety is suitable both for fresh consumption and for processing: oil, canned goods, desserts and other products.
