KRASNY SHIPONIK

The 'Krasy Shaponik' rosehip is a medium-sized shrub, reaching a height of 2 to 2.5 meters. It has a spreading crown; branches are covered with short thorns located closer to the base of the shoots, which facilitates harvest and increases resistance to mechanical damage. The leaves are large, green, hairless, smooth, and matte.

The fruits of this variety have a pear shape, weighing 2.4–4.7 grams, with a bright red hue and rich tones, featuring a sweet-and-sour taste. They contain 2636–2909 mg/100 g of vitamin C, as well as sugars (about 6%) and acids (≈1.4%). The average maturation period allows for harvesting in July.

'Krasy Shaponik' is characterized by high winter hardiness – frost resistance up to -34 °C, resistance to powdery mildew, black spot, anthracnose, and gall rust. The variety tolerates moderate drought and heat stress well, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. The yield is approximately 3.2 kg of fruits per bush (≈19.8 c/ha); it is self-incompatible, but the best pollinators are the Vorontsovsky-1 and Ural Champion varieties.

The bush is easily propagated with green cuttings. It is recommended to plant in sunny locations with good drainage. Due to its hardiness and rich taste, 'Krasy Shaponik' is suitable both for home growing and for the commercial production of rosehip products.
