Rye Matador

German precision in field performance

Winter rye «Matador» from Saaten-Union is designed for producers who prioritize consistent yields and operational efficiency. In a market crowded with generic varieties, Matador stands out due to its robust physiological resistance to various pests. This genetic trait allows for a more streamlined crop management strategy, especially in regions where insect pressure is a limiting factor for grain production.

Key advantages in field protection

The primary value proposition of Matador is its inherent ability to withstand damage from both soil and canopy-dwelling pests. By minimizing the impact of these stressors, the crop maintains its plant density and vigor throughout the growing season. The variety shows significant resistance to:

• Soil-borne pests: Wireworms and mole crickets, which often undermine crop establishment.
• Foliar and sap-sucking insects: Flea beetles, aphids, thrips, and leafhoppers.
• Major threats: The cereal ground beetle, a pest capable of causing substantial crop loss.

Choosing Matador is an investment in risk reduction. By relying on the built-in resilience provided by Saaten-Union’s breeding expertise, farmers can potentially reduce the frequency and cost of insecticide applications.

Strategic application

Matador is best suited for professional farming operations looking for a balance between high yield potential and predictable field performance. While it is highly adaptable, it thrives best under optimal management practices. It is not designed for neglect, but for producers who implement proper crop rotation and timely agronomic interventions. Its strength lies in its consistency—a reliable choice for those aiming to secure their harvest against unpredictable biological threats.
