Zenga Zengana

Zenga Zengana raspberry is a mid-season variety developed in Germany in the mid-20th century, still popular due to its high flavor quality and resistance to adverse conditions. The bushes of this variety are strong, tall, and compact, with dark green leaves and short flower stems located at leaf level or below, requiring mulching between rows to prevent fruit contamination. The plant produces few runners and maintains yield at one location for up to six years.

The berries of Zenga Zengana have a round-conical or wedge-shaped form, often uneven, with color ranging from bright red to dark red, evenly distributed over the surface. The first berry during fruiting can reach up to 30 grams, while subsequent berries gradually decrease to 15 grams. The flesh is dark red, medium firm, juicy, very aromatic, and sweet, making this variety an excellent choice for fresh consumption as well as for making jams and pies. Due to its characteristics, Zenga Zengana raspberry is well-suited for deep freezing and drying.

The variety is characterized by high frost resistance and tolerance to waterlogging, allowing cultivation under various climatic conditions. However, due to its long fruiting period, the raspberry is susceptible to gray mold and leaf spot diseases, although it shows good resistance to root diseases. The yield of this variety is high: about 1.5 kilograms of berries can be harvested per bush, and approximately 4 kilograms per square meter.
