Description Everest
The garden strawberry (raspberry) variety 'Everest', also known as 'Mount Everest', is a remontant, high-yielding variety developed in France in the 1980s and widely cultivated in Europe. The plant features a robust yet compact and spreading bush with large dark green leaves covered in a silvery waxy coating. The flower stalks are tall and hold berries well, although they may droop slightly under their weight. Everest is suitable for cultivation in open ground, greenhouses, and polytunnels, including as an espalier, demonstrating high winter hardiness and relative soil adaptability. The berries of the Everest variety have a regular conical shape, bright red glossy color, and medium to large size, reaching about 20 grams. The flesh is firm yet not hard, juicy and aromatic with a sweet-tart flavor, making the fruit suitable for fresh consumption, processing, and freezing. Due to the dense flesh structure, the berries withstand transportation well, allowing the variety to be used for selling fresh produce at markets. Yield reaches 1-2 kg per plant, and fruiting continues from late June until late autumn due to the variety's remontant nature. The Everest variety exhibits good resistance to common root diseases and high winter hardiness, although it is susceptible to certain fungal infections such as Colletotrichum acutatum. For successful cultivation, regular watering, especially during dry periods, as well as weed removal and soil loosening after watering, are recommended. These agronomic practices contribute to maintaining plant health and stable yields. Overall, Everest is valued for its excellent berry flavor, attractive appearance, and reliability under various cultivation conditions.
